Experiential Learning
Animation Portfolio Workshop welcomes in-person and online drawing field trips for high school art classes from public and private schools.
During the three-hour session your group is guided through life drawing and character drawing exercises taken from our APW curriculum. APW provides instructors and video reference of a clothed model. Studio equipment such as drawing benches and drawing boards are provided in our studio at St. Matthew’s United Church. *Note* online sessions are also available.
The session is conducted in three segments:
- SEGMENT ONE – Drawing exercises using video reference of a clothed model. This hands-on segment introduces students to the gesture drawing exercise taught in our many workshop classes.
- SEGMENT TWO – An intro to the basics of animation character-drawing. Using exercises taken from the APW curriculum students learn how to draw animation characters and even design their own.
- SEGMENT THREE – A brief presentation of APW student portfolio examples. An info session about entry requirements for post-secondary art programs followed by a Q & A.
